2nd Friday Art Walk! January 12th 2018

Artist Statment: 

"I aspire to create art that is both beautiful and intriguing, unlike anything that I have ever seen. I have always been intrigued with how light sources interact with human subjects, and my work uses that concept to take traditional portraits to a new level. 

I choose various utensils to create the desired expression of a piece. Different lighting tools have completely unique textures that create different tones and emotions. Color has a large impact on the feeling of a piece. The mix of colors and textures of light come together with the subject to capture a feeling of emotion with a visual impact.

My work is a dynamic and abstract take on the traditional portrait. What started as an experiment with a cell phone light has become a complex visual experience- mixing color and textures. As both a visual and performing artist, movement is a big influence on the overall feeling of a piece of my art. I am exploring human vulnerability and emotion by visualizing intangible aspects of human nature with light. I am challenging the traditional portrait by attempting to more accurately capture honesty and self expression in a way that cannot normally be expressed in photography. "

Join Thomas Thompson this Saturday, December 10th, for two Awareness Through Movement sessions.  The theme will be Peaceful Pelvis.  There will be two classes (separated by a refreshment break) focusing on improving hip joint health.  If you are getting sore walking around and shopping or anticipating back pain while cooking then you should sign up now.  

We know this is a busy season.  Are you thinking, "How can I fit in one more thing?"  Because you want to feel your best this holiday season.  Come!  You will feeling better.

Feldenkrais is an a amazing movement discipline.  It is subtle, but powerful and effective. How better to be mindful than learning a body scan?  No we do not mean the electronic thing on your wrist that sends a report to your phone.  We mean using a much more sophisticated technology: your mind-body connection.   Join Thomas Thompson for two Mindful Mat Feldenkrais sessions.  The classes will focus on an awareness scan that will allow you to be present with your body.  Without awareness, exercise is just another word for repetition.  Awareness is what gives exercise purpose.
